#Speak to Your Mountain Devotional
Daily Reading: (Joshua 14:10-12):
“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
In Joshua 13:1 it says: “When Joshua had grown old, the Lord said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.”
How old do you have to be to have God tell you that you are very old? There was work to be done and Joshua had grown old with much left to be accomplished.
There’s a lesson from Joshua’s life that if you spend your life always fighting, always being stressed out, you’ll eventually wear out and grow old real fast. The difference is seen in Caleb’s life who remained “young” and strong even though he experienced the same things as Joshua.
“Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: “You know the word which the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea” (Joshua 14:6).
The secret to Caleb’s strength and him not “growing old/weak” is that Caleb knew God’s Word and also what it said concerning him (Joshua 14:6). Caleb knew that he was fighting to possess his inheritance, the land that already belonged to him (Joshua 14:7-9).
Caleb asked God to give him this mountain- it was a tangible place that God had promised to give as an inheritance. Did you know that Jesus wants us to speak directly to our mountains? When you are faced with a mountain-sized problem, the temptation is to run and tell God all about it. But He already knows about your problem and He’s already provided everything you need to overcome it.
The Old Covenant promises were based on faithfulness of people. So, Caleb would ask for the inheritance- he spoke to God about the mountain to ensure this was the right time to move forward into it. But in the New Testament God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ already. So, don’t talk to God about your mountain; talk to your mountain about God! God has supplied everything you need by grace (Ephesians 1:3). Faith doesn’t move God to do what He’s already done; faith moves mountains. Speak to your mountain about what God has accomplished for you in Christ.

Joshua 15:16-17: “And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kirjath Sepher and takes it, to him I will give Achsah my daughter as wife.” So Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
In Hebrew, “Kirjath Sepher” means “city of the book,” which represents the Word of God.
“Achsah,” Caleb’s daughter, represents the most precious possession.
Those who claim and master the Word of God will have the power to possess what is most precious to them (Joshua 15:16). However only one was able and that was Othniel (Joshua 15:17). In Revelation 5, only the Lion of Judah could open the heavenly scroll.
“Othniel” — is the one who conquered Kirjath Sepher. His name means “lion of God,” and he represents Jesus (Joshua 15:17). It is only Jesus who can open the Word of God to us (Revelation 5). With Him, we can master the Word and possess what is precious to us.
